Two Hurricanes of 32 Squadron, including that of S/Ldr Mike Crossley, wait in the dawn light as the aircrews finish off their pre-flight checks in the half light.
The aircraft are dispersed around the perimeter of Biggin Hill Airfield, and there is briefly quiet around the aerodrome as the sound of the Merlin Engines being warmed up dies away.....
All is ready, and the wating commences....for what will be an intense day, on the ground and in the air, for both 32 Squadron and all at Biggin Hill on this, the 'Hardest Day' of the Battle of Britain.
