‘Steam Redoubled’ - SR V Schools Class, 30914 ‘Eastbourne’, with the ‘Conti’ near Shalford, late 1950s
SR V Schools Class ‘Eastbourne’ with the ‘Conti’ near Shalford

Ever since being a young child, I remember the spectacular and fascinating patterns of steam created by an engine forging under a bridge; how the steam and smoke would momentarily disappear only to burst out in every direction around the engine. I chose to capture this with a view of a rather shabby, but still handsome, Schools Class loco with a full head of steam ready for the climb up through Gomshall with the ‘Continental Express’ on the North Downs Line.

Oil on Canvas Board, Size c. 12"x8". Price £217 (+p&p small)
